Hotepsekhemwy

Hotepsekhemwy was known as the founder /king of the Second Dynasty. His name means “Pleasing in Powers”. The two powers are satisfied. Meaning the two mistresses, the upper and lower Egypt. His name is a reference to the gods of Horus and Seth, “the two Mighty Ones at Rest”. His birthname was Hotep-Nebty.
He reached office through a marriage with a princess. It was also possible that he was a member of a ruling family during the First Dynasty. He was not thought to be the son of Pharaoh Qa’a, possibly a son-in-law. It was said that he might be related to the Thinite lines of rulers. Thinis was Egypt’s old name.
It was recorded that he developed changes in both religion and Egyptian administration. His rule was confirmed by the inscription of the statue of a kneeling priest and from a small assortment of items. During his reign, an earthquake hit the vicinity of Bubastis in the Nile Delta.
Compare to First and Third Dynasties, the Second Dynasty appeared weak in political, technological, and cultural terms. The Second Dynasty didn’t have any impressive events during that period. Some historians said, that his brother started a military coup and threw him out of power. According to Manetho of the second dynasty, Hotepsekhemwy’s reign was 38 years. But, according to present sources, his reign was 15 to 25 years (2825 – 2845 BC). His tomb was identified at Saqqara. His tomb was accidentally discovered in 1902. Several tombs were empty but, the names of the Pharaohs are in several places
